Celtics trade rumors: Kevin Garnett, Josh Smith mentioned in separate reports

Among the many rumors involving the Boston Celtics as the trade deadline approaches includes a trade that would send Kevin Garnett to the Los Angeles Clippers and another that would bring Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith to Beantown.

The Boston Celtics have been at the center of the most shocking trade rumors this season.

Of late, the rumor receiving the most attention says the Los Angeles Clippers are interested in shipping guard Eric Bledsoe and center DeAndre Jordan to Boston for veteran forward Kevin Garnett. Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski quoted a source saying that Clippers guard Chris Paul could make a push for the team to acquire Garnett, and reading in between the lines, it's possible to see that Los Angeles is serious about making such a deal.

That said, Boston would need Garnett to waive his no-trade clause to make any trade possible. Furthermore, the Clippers would have to be convinced that blowing up a core of young players for immediate success is the way to go.

In another rumor involving the Celtics, the Atlanta Hawks would trade soon-to-be free agent Josh Smith to Boston in exchange for forwards Brandon Bass and Jeff Green. MassLive.com notes that everyone from Wojnarowski to Milwaukee Journal Times reporter Gery Woefel believes there have been preliminary discussions. However, CSNNE.com's A. Sherrod Blakely tweeted that Boston isn't willing to give up two bodies for one because of their current lack of depth following injuries.

Smith has been linked to several other teams, including the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks.

Finally, a report originating from CBS Sports' Ken Berger that discussed a swap of Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo for Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard was denied by Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, according to ESPN Los Angeles.
