The Boston Celtics recalled rookie Fab Melo from the NBA Developmental League on Dec. 10. Two days later, they have sent him back.
Melo, the 22nd overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft out of Syracuse, has yet to appear in a regular season game with the Celtics. The Celtics sent Melo down to the D-League in November and in five games with the Maine Red Claws he has averaged 6.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks in 23.4 minutes per game.
Last season with Syracuse, Melo averaged 7.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game, all significant improvements from his freshman season. His improved numbers, combined with his 7'0 size, propelled him into the first round of the NBA Draft.
The Celtics recalled Melo on Monday, Dec. 10, but before they played a game they changed their minds and sent him back down. Boston hosts the Dallas Mavericks at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
