The Boston Celtics have recalled rookie center Fab Melo from the NBA Developmental League. Melo has been with Boston's affiliate club the Maine Red Claws since November.
In five NBA Developmental League games with Maine, Melo averaged 6.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game while playing approaching 24 minutes per contest. Melo has yet to appear in an NBA game for Boston.
Melo was the Celtics' first-round draft pick in the 2012 NBA draft; they used the 22nd overal pick to select the 7'0 center from Syracuse.
During his final season with the Orange, Melo averaged 7.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.9 blocks in more than 25 minutes per game. Melo was part of a Syracuse squad that went to the Elite Eight in the 2011-12 season before being eliminated by Ohio St.
The Celtics' next game is Wednesday at home against the Dallas Mavericks with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
