The Boston Red Sox find themselves in an uncomfortable spot. Even after a 6-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, they are still 12.5 games out of the AL East lead and seven games out of the Wild Card with September looming. With the thoughts of a playoff run fading, Boston can at least look to save face when they begin a three-game series against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Friday.
The Red Sox are 3-6 against the Yankees this season, giving them a chance to even the record with their bitter rival if all goes well. The Yankees won't be an easy out, however, having won seven of their last nine games. They took three games out four in their recent series against the Texas Rangers.
