Dustin Pedroia Likely Headed To Disabled List With Thumb Injury

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is likely headed to the 15-day disabled list with a with an injury to his right thumb, according to a league source. The injury is reportedly in a different spot than the torn adductor muscle that kept Pedroia out for six games in June.

Pedroia was held out against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday with what he called an injury to the backside of his thumb. He underwent tests Thursday, and the results apparently indicated that a trip to the DL would be necessary.

The Red Sox will likely make things official Friday before their tilt with the New York Yankees, at which time they will announce a corresponding roster move.

Pedroia has struggled since coming from his initial injury, hitting .210 with a .587 OPS.
