The Red Sox will open their three-game set against the Yankees Friday night as they send Aaron Cook to the mound against Phil Hughes. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. EST with broadcasts on NESN, the MLB Network, and WEEI.
After a couple of games in the seventh spot against left-handed starters, Carl Crawford will move back up to the two-hole against the right-handed Phil Hughes. It's been another dismal start to a campaign for Crawford, who's found himself replaced in the late innings by Daniel Nava due to questions on his arm strength. Still, even last year he had passable numbers against right-handers (if not for a $20 million man), so the Sox can hope for some production against Hughes.
Daniel Nava, meanwhile, will likely not be making an appearance as a defensive replacement, as he takes on the role of designated hitter for the night. Ryan Sweeney will be the odd-man-out in the five-man outfield corps, with Cody Ross getting the nod in right field.
