Red Sox Trade Rumors 2012: Boston May Make Bold Move Before Deadline

The trade deadline in Major League Baseball is rapidly approaching, and naturally, the rumor mill is starting to churn for the Boston Red Sox. Larry Lucchino, who is the president of the Red Sox, said in a radio interview with WEEI that he believes that General Manager Ben Cherington may make a bold move prior to the deadline.

"Yes, I do," Lucchino said. "I think Ben feels empowered to do it, I think he has the capacity to do it, when he took the job and in fact since then we have talked frequently about boldness. You've got to know when to be bold and when to be somewhat conservative and methodical. This is a club has been built on bold moves over the years, going back to the Nomar Garciaparra trade as one example. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that Ben Cherington and the entire baseball operations are all pointed to working hard to July 31." (via WEEI)

Carl Crawford has his name tossed into the rumor mill, with reports surfacing that the Red Sox were "gauging interested" in their pricey left fielder. Cherington responded to the report by saying there wasn't anything happening on a Crawford trade front, and Lucchino said on Thursday that it was the Miami Marlins who inquired about Crawford, and not the other way around.

Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is at 4:00 p.m. ET on July 31, 2012.
