Red Sox Vs. Braves Lineups: David Ortiz Sits, Will Middlebrooks Plays DH

The Red Sox will go four a fourth straight series win Sunday afternoon as they take on Mike Minor and the Atlanta Braves in Fenway Park. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m. EST with broadcasts on NESN, TBS, and WEEI.

After a disastrous night at the plate against Jair Jurrjens, the Sox bounced back Saturday with a consistent attack against Randall Delgado and the Atlanta bullpen, eventually good for eight runs. The assault was led by Dustin Pedroia (3-for-4 with a double and a walk) and Will Middlebrooks (3-for-4 with a double and a home run), who make up the core of Sunday's lineup as Middlebrooks takes over at designated hitter for David Ortiz and bats third for the first time in his career.

Another hitch in the usual order will be Cody Ross hitting fourth, as the Sox stack the core of their lineup with right-handed hitters against lefty Mike Minor. Minor has had a tough time in general this year, but has given up an especially high .851 OPS to right-handers so far. That explains the Sox' desire to get Kevin Youkilis into the lineup, but perhaps not the decision to sit David Ortiz instead of Adrian Gonzalez. Perhaps it's about advertising his abilities at third, where potential trade suitors need help. Of course, that would require Youkilis to actually look good fielding the position.
