Matt Barnes and Xander Bogaerts are the two players who will represent the Boston Red Sox in the 2012 MLB Futures Game on July 8, the MLB announced on Thursday.
Barnes will play for Team USA in the exhibition that takes place as part of the MLB's All-Star weekend, while Bogaerts, an Aruba native, will play for the World team.
Barnes, a 22-year old right-handed pitcher, is tearing apart Single-A ball in his first season as a professional after playing college ball at UConn. The starter is 7-1 with a 0.99 ERA and 95 strikeouts over 13 combined starts in Greenville and Salem. He was drafted with the 19th overall pick in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft.
Bogaerts, a 19-year old shortstop, has spent his entire season to date with Salem in High-A. In 66 games, he is batting .293 with nine home runs, 26 extra-base hits and 42 RBI.
