MLB All-Star Game Voting: David Ortiz Among Leaders

If voting for the 2012 MLB All-Star Game ended today, only one member of the Boston Red Sox would be in the starting lineup. David Ortiz currently leads all American League designated hitters, but only holds a narrow lead over Michael Young of the Texas Rangers.

Ortiz, who is hitting .300/.385/.564 with 13 home runs headed into Sunday's matinee against the Nationals, currently leads Young by approximately 150,000 votes. Red Sox fans should be doing everything they can to ensure that Ortiz starts the game, as he is much, much more deserving than Young, who is hitting a paltry .283/.311/.375 on the season.

Dustin Pedroia currently ranks third among second basemen, with just under 700,000 votes. Pedroia trails both Ian Kinsler and Robinson Cano. Pedroia, though, will need a huge surge, as Kinsler has nearly 1.5 million votes already.

Jacoby Ellsbury, who has missed most of the season because of a shoulder injury, currently ranks 14th among outfielders in the American League.

Fans have until June 28 to vote for the All-Star game, and can cast their ballots here.
