Red Sox Option Scott Atchison To AAA

After being designated for assignment by the team back on Jan. 26, Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Scott Atchison has cleared waivers and has been assigned to AAA Pawtucket. Atchison was DFA'd so there would be room on the 40-man roster after the team agreed to terms for with outfielder Cody Ross.

Atchison, 35, was 1-0 with a 3.26 ERA, in 30.1 innings of work as a long reliever/spot starter role for the Red Sox in 2011. During 2011, he spent the majority of his time in the minors last season in AAA, but made it up the the big leagues on certain occasions. With Atchison not being on the 40-man roster, the team has extended an offer to him to join them in Ft. Myers, Florida for their spring training, which is less than two weeks away.
