Larry Lucchino, the president and CEO of the Boston Red Sox, attended the annual celebration of unofficial start of the new season, otherwise known as Truck Day, on Saturday outside of Fenway Park in Boston, MA. Lucchino took pictures with fans and even passed out cookies and free team-related gear to the hundreds of fans that came out to celebrate.
As for the team itself, Lucchino knows that after the way the Sox finished last year, a lot of feathers have been ruffled and many are looking for answers. However, he maintained that this will be fun year to be a fan of the team.
"This is a really exciting year," Lucchino said. "We have got a lot to prove. We have new baseball leadership. We have the 100th year anniversary [of Fenway Park] celebration. These are exciting times. You really have to be here this year and follow it this year. It's going to be a very challenging and exciting year."
Lucchino arrived around 11:00 a.m. at Truck Day to interact with fans and stayed for most of the celebration. The truck departed at noon and it is currently en route to JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida, which is the new spring training home of the Red Sox. It's a 1,480 mile journey from Fenway to Fort Myers and will naturally take several days.
