Kevin Youkilis, Erik Bedard Return To Boston With Hip, Lat Injuries

Kevin Youkilis and Erik Bedard are back in Boston while the Red Sox are in Tampa to take on the Rays this weekend, as Youkilis will receive an MRI for a hip injury that has affected him throughout the season while Bedard is skipping a turn in the rotation with a mild lat strain as a result of trying to pitch through knee soreness.

Youkilis, said Francona, will receive an MRI for a hip injury that has bothered him at various points over the course of the season and that has been particularly bothersome in recent days, while Bedard was being checked out for a mild lat strain that he incurred while trying to pitch through left knee soreness. (via WEEI)

Youkilis isn't expected to return to the team during the trip, but Bedard might rejoin the Red Sox in Tampa, according to Red Sox manager Terry Francona. Youkilis is batting .261 with 17 home runs and 80 RBI in 117 games while Bedard is 1-2 with a 3.66 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched in six starts with Boston.
