Red Sox 1, Athletics 2, End 3: A Quiet Third Inning

Not much to report for the third, other than a couple of strikeouts for Tim Wakefield—his first of the game.

Both teams went 1-2-3, with only Hideki Matsui’s fly ball ever really threatening to do anything. Wakefield’s pitch count is still pretty high, however, which is troublesome given how quickly he’s fallen apart as said count has risen this year. A short outing would almost guarantee that the knuckleballer wouldn’t pick up win number 200 tonight.
