MLB Standings: Red Sox Still Hold One-Game AL East Lead

The Boston Red Sox continue to maintain their perilous perch atop the American League East, leading the division by just one game over the rival New York Yankees.

At 73-45, the Red Sox have the best record in the American League, and would be ahead by no fewer than eight games in any other American League division, no fewer than five in any other division in the big leagues - save, of course, for the National League East, where the Philadelphia Phillies are running away with things at 77-41.

The Yankees have nine games in the loss column on the Los Angeles Angels of Disneyland County, Southern California or whatever they're calling themselves this week, as well as on the Tampa Bay Rays, whom they wrap up a series with this Sunday.

The complete AL East standings:

Boston Red Sox (73-45)

New York Yankees (72-46, one game back)

Tampa Bay Rays (64-55, 10 games back)

Toronto Blue Jays (60-59, 14 games back)

Baltimore Orioles (45-71, 27 games back)
