Clay Buchholz Has Stress Fracture, Will Likely Miss Rest Of Season

Clay Buchholz reportedly has a stress fracture and is likely to miss the remainder of the 2011 regular season, according to reports. Buchholz is 6-3 with a 3.48 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 14 starts this season.

One day after the Red Sox completed a deal for pitcher Erik Bedard, a report has come out that Clay Buchholz has a stress fracture in his lower back and is likely to miss the rest of the season. Buchholz, who has been out since June 15, is scheduled to meet with back specialist Dr. Thomas Watkins in Los Angeles on Monday. According to CSNNE's Sean McAdam, Watkins is expected to confirm a previous diagnosis of the stress fracture. (via WEEI)

Buchholz' health has been an area of concern for the Red Sox, especially GM Theo Epstein, who told reporters on Sunday that the team has concerns for him and that they had anticipated a faster return.
