MLB All-Star Game 2011: Kevin Youkilis Added To American League Roster

Kevin Youkilis has been added to the American League roster for the 2011 MLB All-Star Game after New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who was voted in as a starter, decided to drop out of the game.

"I think it's an honor to be chosen," he said. (via MLB.com)

Youkilis will be appearing in his third straight All-Star game, as he was also selected to the game in 2009 and 2010. In 81 games this season, Youkilis is batting .275 with a .491 slugging percentage, 12 home runs and 59 RBI.

"That's awesome," said Boston first baseman Adrian Gonzalez upon finding out that Youkilis would be joining him. "It's great. He deserves it." (via MLB.com)

Youkilis joins Gonzalez, David Ortiz, Josh Beckett and Jacoby Ellsbury on the AL roster. Gonzalez and Ortiz were voted in as starters, while Beckett and Ellsbury are reserves.
