Boston Red Sox shortstop of the future Jose Iglesias is heading to the disabled list, retroactive to July 3rd, with a concussion after he was hit in the head by a pitch from Scranton/Wilkes Barre's Andrew Brackman.
Because the International League's injury policies differ from those of their parent league, Iglesias is only DL-ed for a week and will be eligible to return on July 10th, if he's deemed well enough to do so. Iglesias' early prognosis was encouraging, according to the Providence Journal, especially since the infielder was able to walk off the field under his own power.
Iglesias spent two weeks in Boston earlier this season when Marco Scutaro went to the disabled list, appearing in six games and scoring two runs, striking out twice in four at-bats. He's batting .227 in a less-than-encouraging season at the plate in Pawtucket.
