Blake Swihart, the catcher from Cleveland High School in Mew Mexico who the Boston Red Sox drafted with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft, told reporters during a conference call that attending the University of Texas is his first priority.
He committed to play at the University of Texas in the fall, and after a childhood spent as a diehard Longhorn fan, he called playing baseball at Texas "a dream come true." He said going to Texas is "Plan A" at the moment. (via Boston Globe)
Swihart, who transitioned to catcher during his sophomore year of high school, made it known that he is comfortable playing a plethora of positions such as third base and the outfield, both of which he played during high school.
However, Swihart was very happy that the Red Sox found interest in his catching abilities.
