Ex-Red Sox Bill Hall Released By Houston Astros

Bill Hall, who played with the Boston Red Sox last season, was released by the Houston Astros on Friday night after a disappointing start.

Hall, a lifetime .249 hitter, was batting .224 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 46 games with the Astros this year. Last season, Hall hit .247 with 18 home runs and 46 RBI for the Red Sox.

If Hall clears waivers, the Astros are responsible for his salary of $3 million this year, as well as a $250,000 buyout on a mutual option for the 2012 season.
