The Orioles went up quickly on the Red Sox in Monday night's game, plating two in the first inning and and chasing starter Daisuke Matsuzaka with one out in the fifth inning. Boston entered the bottom of the sixth trailing 6-0. That's when the comeback began.
J.D. Drew led off with a single and scored on Jed Lowire's double. An error allowed Carl Crawford to reach and Jason Varitek followed with an RBI-single. After two quick outs, red-hot Adrian Gonzalez (foreshadowing!) singled, scoring Crawford in the process. Kevin Youkilis capped the five-run inning with a two-run double smoked off the wall in left. Suddenly, it was 6-5, Orioles.
The score remained 7-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth. With runners on first and second, Gonzalez came to the plate and delivered with his third hit of the game, a double high off the wall in the left to give Boston a walk-off win. Watch video of Adrian Gonzalez's walk-off double at MLB.com.
For Boston, it was their fourth straight win, and it put them over .500 for the first time this season. And for Gonzalez, the three-hit continued his torrid May: he now has two or more hits in five of the past eight games (15-for-36, 6 HR, 15 RBI).
