Jerry Remy is once again absent from the NESN booth on Friday night as the Red Sox take on the Yankees in the Bronx. The reason? The beloved Sox color commentator has been battling pneumonia.
↵Remy, who is the color commentator alongside play-by-play voice Don Orsillo for NESN's Red Sox telecasts, has missed the last 14 games due to the illness and has not been in the booth since April 27. Thankfully, Remy is expected to return on Monday night when Boston takes on the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.
↵Yet the longer Remy's absence stretched out, the more worrisome it became for Red Sox Nation, considering that Remy had a bout with lung cancer two years ago. Chad Finn of The Boston Globe writes what we've all been thinking.
↵↵I don't think I'm speaking out of turn to say his absence became increasingly worrisome as it grew longer. So to hear Remy say it's "just" pneumonia is actually reassuring given all he suffered through two years ago in the aftermath of lung cancer surgery. Here's hoping there are no further delays in his recovery and he's feeling well enough to return to his familiar perch in the booth when the Red Sox return home Monday.
