September 27, 2010. That's the last time the Boston Red Sox won a game on the road. With Tuesday night's 5-0 loss at the Oakland Athletics, Boston is now 0-7 on the road, the first time they've ever opened a season with that many consecutive road losses; They are the last winless team away from home in MLB.
The Red Sox will look to snap that streak Wednesday afternoon when they take on the A's in a getaway game at 3:35 p.m. ET.
J.D. Drew is back in the leadoff spot and Jason Varitek is back behind the plate. Boston will be going up against Oakland's Gio Gonzalez (2-0, 0.47 ERA), a lefty who has struck out 14 batters in 19 innings this season. With a southpaw on the mound, David Ortiz gets the afternoon off -- Kevin Youkilis will handle DH duties, with Jed Lowrie filling in at third base.
