Bobby Valentine: 'I Hate The Yankees'

After just a few weeks on the job, new Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine has already caught the attention of several fans today. In his media availability today at the Baseball Winter meetings today, Valentine was asked about how he felt about the New York Yankees. Valentine responded by saying this:

"I hate the Yankees. I don't want to waste this valuable time talking about the Yankees. This is too valuable," Valentine said to laughter in his meeting with the media at the winter meetings. "I told [Yankees manager] Joe Girardi I used to love them, but now I hate them." (via WEEI)

As a Red Sox fan, I really like Valentine's comments here. One of the things that former manager Terry Francona never did is publicly call out the Yankees, or use the word "hate" for that matter. One of the clear advantages of hiring a guy like Valentine to run your team is that he is not afraid to create sparks. Sparks is just what this rivalry needs at its lowest point.
