The Boston Red Sox have landed Oakland Athletics closer Andrew Bailey after a trade (via Buster Olney's Twitter). As part of the trade, Josh Reddick, Miles Head and Raul Alcantara will go to Oakland and the Red Sox will get Ryan Sweeney (via Buster Olney's Twitter). Head and Alcantara are minor league players. Head plays third base and Alcantara is a pitcher.
Bailey has a career record of 7-10 with an ERA of 2.07. He's converted 75 of 84 career save opportunities. Last season Bailey fought off injuries to finish the season with 24 saves, a 3.24 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 41.2 innings. Bailey was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2009 and was an All-Star in 2009 and 2010.
Ryan Sweeney is a right fielder who hit .265 with one home run and 25 RBI for Oakland in 2011. He bats .283 for his career (472 games).
