Red Sox Officially In The Mix For Werth

According to an ESPN.com post, the Red Sox have contacted Scott Boras to discuss their interest in former Philadelphia Phillies OF Jayson Werth.

Werth, who hasn't played in fewer than 134 games in the last three seasons, would be a valuable addition to an aging and oft-injured Red Sox outfield. His gun of an arm would fit well in center or right field at Fenway Park, and the Boston outfield could use a strong right-handed bat as well.

The Red Sox, as ESPN points out, also have interest in Adrian Beltre and Jason Varitek, two Boras clients who played for the team last season.

Whether or not Boston expresses an interest in Carl Crawford is yet to be seen.
