John Holland finished with a game-high 16 points and seven rebounds as No. 2 seed Boston University defeated sixth-seed Hartford, 55-49, in the America East Tournament semifinals on Sunday night in West Hartford, Conn.
The Terriers (20-13, 12-4 America East), who have now won 10 games in a row, advance to the America East championship game against No. 5 seed Stony Brook, which will be played on Saturday. In total, this is the 15th time that Boston University has made it to the America East title game.
Patrick Hazel scored 10 points and both Dom Morris and Matt Griffin scored nine points for BU, which made 14 of 33 field goals (42.4%) and 7 of 15 shots beyond the arc (46.7%).
Morgan Sabia and Genesis Maciel both scored 13 points to lead Hartford (11-20, 7-9 America East). Joe Zeglinski had seven points and eight rebounds and Anthony Minor also added seven points for the Hawks, who shot 35.2% in the losing effort.
Griffin's three with 5:09 left in the game put the Terriers up 45-43, a lead that they would not relinquish. Holland sealed BU's victory at the free-throw line, making 5 of 6 free throws in the final 1:07.
