The first round of the 2011 NIT Championship concluded Wednesday night with the final seven games of the opening round of the NCAA Tournament's little brother. The two No. 1 seeds advanced easily: Virginia Tech rolled through Bethune-Cookman, 79-54, and Colorado -- another bubble team -- downed Texas Southern, 88-74.
Other winners Wednesday night included Wichita State, Miami, Northwestern, California and Washington State.
The second of the NIT is set to take place over a four-day span, Mar. 18-21, at the college campuses. No. 1 seed Boston College hosts Northwestern Saturday morning, Mar. 19, at 11 a.m. EDT. The quarterfinals are set for Mar. 22-23.
