ACC Tournament 2011: Virginia Tech Overpowers Georgia Tech, 59-43

Malcolm Delaney scored 15 points to lead the No. 6 seed Virginia Tech Hokies past the No. 11 seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 59-43, on Thursday night in the first round of the 2011 ACC Tournament in Greensboro, N.C.

Virginia Tech (20-10) took a 39-19 lead into halftime but were outscored by the Yellow Jackets, 24-23, in the second half. Nevertheless, it was far too late for Georgia Tech (13-18) to make a comeback, which never led in the game.

The Hokies will face No. 3 seed Florida State in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 9 p.m. EST (ACC Network/ESPN2).

Jeff Allen had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Erick Green added 11 points for the Hokies, who made 22-of-47 field goals (46.8%). Victor Davila and Manny Atkins both had six points for Virginia Tech.

Glen Rice Jr. paced the Yellow Jackets, scoring 14 points and collecting five boards. Iman Shumpert added 12 points and Jason Morris totaled six points and four rebounds in the losing effort for Georgia Tech, which shot 32.1% from the floor and 21.7% from three-point range.
