2011 NFL Combine: Demarcus Van Dyke, Stephen Paea Among Combine's Top Performers

Miami defensive back Demarcus Van Dyke and Oregon State defensive tackle Stephen Paea are two of the top performers so far at the 2011 NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Van Dyke had a Combine-best time of 4.28 seconds in the 40-yard dash. The best 40-yard dash time in recent history was 4.24 seconds, a feat that current Carolina Panthers running back Chris Johnson accomplished back in 2008.

LSU defensive back Patrick Peterson and Maryland's Da'Rel Scott were tied for the next fastest time, completing the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds. Edmond Gates of Abilene Christian and Ricardo Lockette of Fort Valley State both completed the dash in 4.37 seconds.

As for Paea, he set a Combine bench pressing record with 49 reps at 225 pounds, besting North Carolina's Marvin Austin by 11 reps. Central Florida defensive lineman Bruce Miller did 35 reps at 225 pounds while Syracuse's Ryan Bartholomew, Oklahoma's Adrian Taylor and Wisconsin's J.J. Watt all completed 34 reps.

In the vertical jump, Virgil Green of Nevada recorded a jump of 42.5 inches. Pittsburgh's Jonathan Baldwin and Nevada's Dontay Moch each had verticals of 42 inches even while Anthony Allen of Georgia Tech recorded a jump of 41.5 inches.

Alabama wideout Julio Jones took the crown in the broad jump with a leap of 11'3", just one inch shy of the Combine record set by Jerome Simpson in 2008. Gates had the second best jump, leaping 10'11".

Oregon's Jeffery Maehl set the Combine record in the three cone drill, completing the course in 6.42 seconds. Buster Skrine of Tennessee-Chattanooga finished in 6.44 seconds and Ohio State's Dane Sanzenbacher finished in 6.46 ticks.

The 20-yard shuffle belonged to Austin Pettis of Boise State, who recorded a time of 3.81 seconds. Idaho's Shiloh Keo and Skrine both finished in 3.90 seconds.

Finally, in the 60-yard shuttle, Skrine recorded a combine-best time of 10.75 seconds. Citadel's Cortez Allen had the second-best time, finishing in 10.87 seconds while Maehl finished in 10.88 seconds.
