The 2012 BCS bids and college football bowl schedule 2011 were made official on Sunday night, but the local football teams, namely UConn and Boston College, were both left to watch matchups unfold without hope of playing.
One year after winning the Big East and earning a spot in the Fiesta Bowl, the Huskies slim hopes of a bowl bid were dashed on the last game of the season, a 35-27 loss to Cincinnati that dropped UConn to a final mark of 5-7. The Eagles all but eliminated themselves from the postseason by winning just once in their first seven games, although Boston College ended the season winning three of its last five.
The Big East will send West Virginia to represent the conference against the ACC champion Clemson in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 4. The ACC also got Virginia Tech into the BCS. The Hokies will meet Michigan in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 3.
