Boston College jumped out to another quick start, taking an 11-5 lead after six minutes, but were unable to hold onto the lead, losing to the Saint Louis Billikens, 62-51, in the first round of the 76 Classic at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA on Thanksgiving Day.
The Eagles (1-3) fell behind 29-23 at halftime and were outscored 33-28 in the final 20 minutes. Matt Humphrey (12 points) pulled BC within five points, 33-28, two minutes into the second half but were unable to bridge the gap. Boston College made 19-of-43 field goals (.442) and 5-of-17 three-pointers.
Humphrey and Ryan Anderson (four rebounds) led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points. Dennis Clifford finished with 10 points and eight rebounds and KC Caudill had eight points made a team-high 4-of-6 field goals. Patrick Heckmann, the Eagles' leading scorer entering the game, had only one point in 13 minutes for the Eagles.
Kwamain Mitchell had a game-high 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Brian Conklin finished with 18 points. Cody Ellis had eight points off the bench for the Billikens (4-0), who made 22-of-52 field goals (42.3 percent) and 6-of-20 threes.
