Boston College Linebacker Luke Kuechly Named Semifinalist For Butkus Award

Boston College Eagles junior linebacker Luke Kuechly continues to have an impressive season, as everybody expected, in spite of his team's dismal 1-6 record with five games left to play. Kuechly leads the nation in total tackles with 118 and solo tackles with 61, and as a result, is a semifinalist for the 2011-12 Butkus Award.

Joining Kuechly as semifinalists for the Butkus Award are North Carolina's Zach Brown, N.C. State's Audie Cole, Nebraska's Lavonte David, Alabama'a Don't'a Hightower and Courtney Upshaw, Notre Dame's Mant Te'o, Oklahoma's Travis Lewis, Texas' Keenan Robinson, Miami's Sean Spence, Georgia's Jarvis Jones and Arizona State's Vontaze Burfict.

Kuechly, who was also on the preseason Butkus Award watch list, had 19 tackles in the Eagles' 30-14 loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies last Saturday and has recorded 10 or more tackles in an FBS-leading 29 straight games. Kuechly had a season-high 23 tackles in the Eagles' loss to Duke on September 17.
