Virginia Vs. Boston College: Cavaliers Lead Eagles 3-0 After First Quarter

CHESTNUT HILL - Virginia kicker Robert Randolph split the uprights on a 27-yard field goal with 4:39 left in the first quarter to give the Cavaliers a 3-0 lead, which they would hold through the remainder of the quarter.

Boston College opened up the game on an eight-play, 32 yard drive in which it had two first downs, but the Eagles came up short on their third set of downs and were forced to punt.

Cavaliers quarterback Marc Verica completed 6-of-9 passes for 40 yards to lead Virginia on a 16-play, 78-yard drive that resulted in Randolph's field goal.

The Eagles caught a break on the ensuing Cavaliers kickoff when Chris Hinkebein muffed the kick, setting Boston College up with a first-and-10 on Virginia's 44 yard line. Boston College drove the ball to the six yard line before time expired in the first.

Eagles junior tailback Montel Harris had 42 yards on 11 carries in the first quarter. Sophomore tailback amassed 30 yards on four carries in the quarter for Virginia.
