Given a second and final chance, sophomore quarterback Dave Shinskie showed us why he was benched in the first placed.
Shinskie completed just 8-of-25 passes for 91 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions as North Carolina State demolished Boston College 44-17 at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, NC on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolfpack (5-1, 2-1 ACC) scored first on kicker Josh Czajkowski's 40-yard field goal with 10:05 remaining in the first quarter.
N.C. State built the lead to 10-0 with 8:10 left in the first quarter when it blocked a Ryan Quigley punt and D.J. Green recovered the ball in the endzone for the score.
Boston College (2-3, 0-2 ACC) put its first points on the board with 14:52 left in the second quarter on kicker Nate Freese's 24-yard field goal, cutting the N.C. State lead to 10-3.
Nevertheless, the Eagles defense couldn't contain N.C. State quarterback Russell Wilson (37-for-51, 312 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT), who built the lead to 17-3 with 13:36 left in the half on a 24-yard touchdown pass to Owen Spencer (7 catches, 62 yards).
With 6:53 left in the half, Russell passed to Darrell Davis (3 catches, 25 yards) for a five-yard score giving N.C. State a commanding 24-3 lead.
The Eagles were able to climb back into the game, though, as Shinskie found Ifeanyi Momah for a 15 yard touchdown that trimmed the Wolfpack lead to 24-10.
Czajkowski tacked on three more before the half on a 44-yard field goal with 0:13 left to give N.C. State a comfotable 27-10 lead at the break.
C.J. Wilson gave N.C. State its only points in the third quarter, interception Shinskie and taking the ball 29 yards to the house to build the Wolfpack lead to 34-10.
Another Wilson touchdown pass, a six yard gain by Jarvis Williams (5 catches, 63 yards), and a Czajkowski field goal of 32 yards in the fourth gave N.C. State a 44-10 advantage.
However, Boston College was able to put the ball in the end zone once more when sophomore quarterback Mike Marscovetra (4-of-8, 83 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), who replaced Shinskie early in the third quarter, found Alex Amidon (4 catches, 103 yards) for a 66-yard touchdown to give the Eagles' their final score of the game.
Montel Harris rushed for 49 yards on 14 carries and Sterlin Phipher carried the ball four times and totaled 30 yards for Boston College.
North Carolina State racked up 411 total yards in the game (334 passing, 77 rushing) while Boston College only managed 274 net yards (174 passing, 100 rushing).
The Eagles, now riding a three-game losing streak, travel to Tallahassee to face ACC powerhouse Florida State next Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
