Ray Allen has brought an end to the Big Three era in Boston, deciding not to return to the Boston Celtics. Instead, the former All-Star and the NBA's three-point king will take his talents to South Beach to join the Miami Heat, according to Miami Heat owner Micky Arison.

The news of Allen's signing was confirmed by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Allen met with the Heat in Miami on Thursday and spent the night before leaving on Friday morning before a deal had been completed. After his visit, reports surfaced that Allen was torn between Boston and Miami, but ultimately decided to join the Heat. Allen's deteriorating relationship with Celtics guard Rajon Rondo, as well as Danny Ainge's attempt to trade Allen at the midway point of the season, reportedly played a role in Allen's decision to leave.

Allen played five seasons with the Celtics, winning one NBA championship in the process.
