NBA Free Agency Rumors 2012: Jason Terry, Boston Celtics Finalizing Deal, According To Report

The Boston Celtics and Jason Terry are engaged in the final stages of discussion to bring the 34-year old guard to Boston, according to a report from Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

The deal does not necessarily preclude the Celtics from acquiring Ray Allen, but he might be turned off by the prospect of competing for playing time with both Terry and Avery Bradley.

Terms of Terry's deal have not been disclosed, which makes sense because nothing is final, but it is probable that he will sign for the mid-level exception. Danny Ainge said earlier this week that he expects the Celtics to be able to stay under the luxury tax threshold and have the full mid-level exception to spend.

Terry averaged 15.1 points and 3.6 assists per game last season for the Dallas Mavericks, connecting on 37.8 percent of his 3-point attempts. The Celtics have long been desperate for bench scoring, and Terry's one of the best in the NBA at filling that particular role.
