NBA Free Agency 2012: Greg Stiemsma Signs With Timberwolves

The Boston Celtics have lost restricted free agent Greg Stiemsma to the Minnesota Timberwolves, as the NBA salary cap forced the Cs hands. According to reports, Stiemsma will be making about $3 million a year with the Timberwoleves, a number that would have pushed Boston over the $74.3 salary cap.

The Celtics were reluctant to offer Stiemsma, who briefly became a league sensation after joining the team as a training camp invite, that valuable exception and team president of basketball operations Danny Ainge told the Globe on Friday that Stiemsma was "a free agent still exploring his options. We're just waiting to see what happens."

Stiemsma's departure comes on the same day the Cs inked a deal with 11-year veteran Jason Collins. In his time with Boston, Stiemsma won the hearts of Celtics fans by being an outstanding defender.
