Celtics Free Agency 2012: Greg Stiemsma Leaves For Minnesota

The Boston Celtics lost a big man on Saturday, with center Greg Stiemsma leaving to join the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The terms of the contract are yet to be released to the public.

According to Jerry Zgoda via twitter, Stiemsma signed with Minnesota, join forces with Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. A role player, Stiemsma played in 55 games last season for Boston (starting three). The 26-year-old averaged 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in 2011-12.

At 6-foot-11 and 260 pounds, the T-Wolves add to their bench while the Celtics are left to fill the void. Doc Rivers and co. should be in good shape however after drafting the likes of Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo.

With so much youthful size, the Celtics could afford to let Stiemsma walk if the price wasn't absolutely right. Considering the recent additions of Courtney Lee and Jason Terry, Boston would have been hard pressed to keep him.
