NEWARK - Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo have been drafted by the Boston Celtics with the No. 21 and No. 22 overall picks in the 2012 NBA Draft on Thursday night in New Jersey. Sullinger is a forward from Ohio State and Melo is a center from Syracuse.
Sullinger opted to return to Ohio State this past season despite the strong chance that he would be a high draft pick in the 2011 draft. Sullinger played two seasons with the Buckeyes, averaging 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds while shooting 54.1 percent from the field this year. In his freshman season, Sullinger averaged 17.5 points and 9.2 rebounds.
Melo also spent two seasons at his school, but his season this year was cut short due to academic ineligibility which forced him to miss the NCAA Tournament. Melo averaged a disappointing 2.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in an average of 9.9 minutes played in his freshman year. This year, Melo improved, as he averaged 7.8 points and 5.8 boards.
