The 2012 NBA Draft saw its first trade of the night, when the Dallas Mavericks traded their No. 17 overall selection, Tyler Zeller, to the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Nos. 24, 33 and 34 picks in the draft.

Several talented big men flew off the board in picks 11-20, starting will Illinois center Meyers Leonard at No. 11 to the Portland Trail Blazers. Picks 14-19 were all occupied by frontcourt players. The draft also saw its first international player selected in guard Evan Fournier from France.
