Duke Blue Devils guard Austin Rivers was selected with the No. 10 overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets on Thursday night.
Rivers, son of Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, had been shooting up draft boards in recent days. Austin Rivers is considered perhaps the best shooting guard in the draft outside of Florida's Bradley Beal, who was drafted No. 3 overall by the Washington Wizards. The Celtics were rumored to be looking to trade up into the lottery on draft day in hopes of acquiring the talented shooting guard.
While the Hornets struggled at times last season, Rivers will earn the privilege of teaming up with No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis out of Kentucky. Davis is considered one of the surest of sure things in the NBA Draft in some time.
