The Boston Celtics have interest in restricted free agent Sonny Weems, Hoopsworld's Alex Kennedy reported on Thursday night.
Kennedy reports that the Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers are also intrigued by the 25-year old high-flyer.
Weems played in Lithuania this past season largely because of the NBA lockout, but was forced to leave his team after suffering a bad ankle sprain which needed more treatment than he could find in Lithuania. During his last NBA season in 2010-11 with the Toronto Raptors, the 6-foot-6 wing averaged 9.2 points and 2.6 rebounds while starting 28 of his 59 games played.
The Celtics face an uncertain summer as they enter the offseason with just four players under contract for the 2012-13 season. The one certainty seems to be that the transition into becoming Rajon Rondo's team will continue. Weems would fit the mold of athletic players equipped to run with Boston's star point guard.
