Boston Celtics Offseason 2012: Greg Stiemsma Wants To Return Next Season

Greg Stiemsma was a pleasant surprise for the Boston Celtics this season. He provided a burst of defensive energy off the bench whenever called upon, averaging 1.5 blocks in just 13.9 minutes per game. He will get a serious sniff from a lot of teams when he hits free agency this summer, but he made it clear in an interview with the Boston Herald on Tuesday that his primary objective is to return to the Celtics next season.

"Obviously, I have to do what's best financially for me and my family. But at the same time, to come back to this system where I think I fit in pretty well, that will play a factor, too," Stiemsma said. "The fans in Boston have been unbelievable. To come back to play for Doc (Rivers), hopefully we can make that work out. Boston is definitely my No. 1 choice."

Stiemsma is in for a busy summer. He will join the U.S. practice squad that will scrimmage against the Olympic squad in preparation for London.
