The news isn't getting any better for Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen, who said that he will need surgery for the right ankle injury that has kept him out of the last nine games of the regular season. Allen told reporters on Saturday that, if the playoffs were not scheduled to start on Sunday, he probably would be getting surgery tomorrow.
"Yeah, no question. If I could I would get surgery tomorrow," Allen said before the team conducted practice. "If this was earlier in the season I probably would have had surgery on it." (via WEEI)
Allen did not practice on Friday or Saturday, and while he will travel with the team to Atlanta for Games 1 and 2 of the opening round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs against the Hawks, head coach Doc Rivers said he doesn't think Allen will play. Allen had a second cortisone shot on Wednesday, and it is not known if he will even play in the postseason.
Allen played 46 games this season, averaging 14.2 points and 3.1 rebounds for Boston.
