The Boston Celtics are expected to sign Ryan Hollins, who was recently released by the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the seven-footer should join his new team in Philadelphia Friday night, according to CSNNE sideline reporter Greg Dickerson.
The Celtics have been desperate for interior help since losing Jermaine O'Neal (degenerative wrist condition) and Chris Wilcox (heart issue) for the remainder of the season. The Celtics are currently starting power forward Kevin Garnett at center, and Greg Stiemsma is the only natural center on the roster.
Hollins is no superstar, but he's an athletic seven-footer who can soak up minutes and personal fouls, if nothing else. The 27-year old averaged 3.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.5 blocks during 24 appearances with the Cavaliers this season, including seven starts. He has also played for the Charlotte Bobcats, Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves, setting career-high averages of 6.1 points and 2.8 rebounds with Minnesota in 2009-10.
