The Boston Celtics could be close to adding a free agent or two, coach Doc Rivers told reporters at the team's shootaround Monday in Atlanta.
"We're close with a couple of free agents that we've looked at, but we'll see," Rivers said, according to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald.
Any acquisition would almost certainly be a big man.
The Celtics have been in desperate need of interior depth since Jermaine O'Neal re-aggravated a wrist injury in February and Chris Wilcox learned earlier this month that he needed heart surgery. It's still possible that O'Neal misses the rest of the season, and doctors have told Wilcox he will not return this year after he undergoes aortic surgery on March 29.
Potential free agent targets include Ronny Turiaf, Chris Johnson, Leon Powe and Earl Barron. Rasheed Wallace has also been rumored to be looking for a return to the NBA.
