Chris Wilcox will be sidelined indefinitely after a routine cardiac test revealed the need for additional tests, according to multiple reports from Comcast SportsNet New England and the Boston Herald. Wilcox missed the Celtics' last game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night for what the team called personal matters.
Wilcox did not travel with the team to Los Angeles, where it begins an eight-game road trip. Reports indicate that Wilcox will meet with team doctors early next week. Boston faces the Lakers on Sunday and the Clippers on Monday night.
Wilcox's potential heart ailment would be another blow to the already injury-stricken franchise. Jeff Green was forced to miss the entire season after a physical revealed an aortic aneurysm that required surgery. It's unclear whether Wilcox's problem is similar to Green's, but the team should know more after further tests.
