Ex-Celtic Tony Delk Hired By New Mexico State As Program's New Head Coach

Tony Delk, who played 89 games with the Boston Celtics, has been hired by New Mexico State as the next head coach of the men's basketball team.

"I was just enjoying the summer and watching basketball," Delk said. "When this job became available, I talked to a lot of people and mentors and everyone that I talked to said it was the best opportunity at this stage of my career." (via Las Cruces Sun-News)

Delk had been the Director of Basketball Operations at his alma mater, the University of Kentucky, but resigned when the position at New Mexico State became available. In two seasons with the Celtics, Delk scored 816 points and 197 assists. In 2003-04, Delk averaged 9.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals.

In 10 seasons in the NBA, Delk scored 4,957 points and 1,351 assists in 545 games.
