Chris Paul Trade Rumors: Celtics Back In Lead With Rajon Rondo Offer?

Are the Celtics once again the favorite to win the Chris Paul Trade sweepstakes? The New Orleans Hornets are reportedly coming back around on Rajon Rondo as a centerpiece for rebuilding as the Clippers and Warriors pull their young talent off the trade market, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

Boston has been dogged in its pursuit of Paul, reportedly proposing as many as eight different options built around Rondo, Jeff Green, first-round draft picks and various third-team assets.

More from Wojnarowski:

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers believe they can sell Paul on re-signing with Boston for the long-term and desperately want him as the franchise star of their post-Big 3 era.

"Danny is a risk-taker," one league official involved in the talks said. "He’s willing to gamble on Paul, because he believes you win championships with stars, and he’s going to get another one to rebuild his team around."

Boston has been active in trying to get a third team involved, but according to Woj's source, the Hornets have been unhelpful in providing directions for Ainge to act on.
